UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE,
AMUS HANK, ()l" SALE. (llllt).
DESIGN FOR GRAVE-GUARDS.
Specification forming part of Design No. 7,779, dated September '29, 1874: application lilul August 3%, H71. [Term of Patent 14 years] (ASE ll.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Amos RANK, of Salem, in the county of (Johunhiana and State of Ohio, have invented a Design for Grave- Gnards, of which the following is a speeitieation The nature of my invention is fully represented in the accompanying drawing, to which reference is here made.
The guard is nearly or quite fiat, as conecrns its upper and under surface, and its ends are squared across-in other words, formed on a straight line, as from a to (r. At each corner from a to b, is a re-entrant curve. Each side, as from c to c, is formed on a moderate salient curve, which joins (at each side of the guard, as aforesaid,) a re-eutrant curve extending from, at, or about the points c each way to the acute outer angles presented at the outer extremities b of the short and acute reentrant corner curves a b. The top of the guard is narrower and shorter than the under surface thereot, so that the cireuinterential surface slopes outward and downward, as fully shown in the drawing.
Instead of the re-entrant curves, from a to I), the circumference at the guard from said point ato point I) may he formed on straight lines without afl'eeting the general configuration of the guard or the shape of my design.
The central portion of the guard is hollowed out to provide a more or less oval spare, A.
\Vhat I claim as my invention is The design for a grave-guard, in which the circumferential surface is squared across the ends formed with salient and re-entrant curves at the sides, and straight or with re-entrant curves at the corners, the whole substantially as and in the manner herein set forth.
