Design No. 4,522, dated December 20, 1870.
DESlGN FOR A FRUIT-JAR CLAMP.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom ct may concern.'
Be it known that I, PETER J OHN Blnsnnnaon, of the city of Rochester, in the county of Monroe and State of New York, have invented or produced a certain new and improved Design for Fruit-J ar Clamps, of which the following is a specification.
Nature of the Invention.
This invention consists of a clamp for holding the cover of a fruit-jar in place, made in the ornamental form hereinafter' described.
General Description.
A is the ring of the clamp, or the part that holds upon the cover; and
B B B the lugs, which catch and hold under the inclined beads blown in the neck of the jar.
The ring, instead of being right-angled in crossseetion, as usual, is made round or concentric, and of an extent equal to a quarter of a circle, as shown in Figure 2. And the lugs, instead of standing straight down, as in other similar devices, stand off laterally, or outside of the ring, and are rounded and of the general contour shown, and serve as holds for the turning of the clamp, as well as lugs to catch the jar.
rlhc form above described presents au ornamental and pleasing appearance to the eye. 'lhc ringl being rounded or concentric instead ot' square imparts a graceful curve to the top ot' the jar which cannot be attained by the old l'orm; and the lugs, swelling ontward and having the curved form shown, relieve the monotony of the ring and imparta pleasing appearance. This clamp gives a far more graceful appearance to the top of the jar than has heretofore been known.
I am aware the mechanical devices of a ring to hold upon the cover, and ot' lugs for catching the neck of the jar, are not new, and such I disclaim.
What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent,is
rlhe design for a fruit-jar clamp, as herein illustrated and described. f
In witness whereof i have hereunto signed my naine in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
l). J. BIESENBACH.
