WITNESSES: uvvelvrofi I A TTURNEYJ UNITED STATES PATENT ()FFICE.
THEODOR KUNDTZ, OF LAKEWOOD, OHIO.
DESIGN FOR A SEWING-MACHINE CABINET.
To all whom it may concern:
Beitknown that LTHEoDoR KUNDTZ, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Lakewood, in the county of Ouyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Sewing-Machine Cabinets, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming part thereof.
The accompanying drawingis a view in perspeotive of a sewing-machine cabinet, showing my new design, and this drawing shows the forward side, the right-hand side, and the op of the cabinet.
The left-hand side of the cabinet is the same in design as the right-hand side of the cabinet and need, therefore, not be specially illustrated.
Referring to the drawing, a designates the top of the cabinet, and in my design for a cabinet of the character indicated the top a has each side edge thereof sinuously shaped. As shown, each side edge of the top ais curved inwardly, as at 5, at two points between the rear edge and forward edge of the top and has an outward swell or curve 6 between its two inward curves 5 and 5. The top a is rounded and curved outwardly, as at 7, where the side edges join the rear and forward edges. The central portion of the forward edge of the top a swells or curves outwardly, as at 8. Two upright walls 17 and b are arranged below the top a equidistant from opposite side edges, respectively, of the top and separated a distance equal to about or somewhat more than one-half of the distance between the said edges, and drawers 0 are hung upon or arranged at the outer sides of the said Walls b below the top a. A front piece d is arranged below the forward portion of the top a and extends between the walls I) and b. The central portion 10 of the said member at swells or curves somewhat outwardly, and opposite end portions 12 and 12 of the said piece (1 are straight, and an ornamental scroll 3 appears on the face of each portion 12.
The member d has forwardl y-proj ectin g members 14 between its portions 10 and 12, and upon the inner side of each Wall b, next to the forward edge of said wall I), is an ornamental piece 6.
The front of each drawer c is curved and extends laterally and forwardly, as at 18, from the adjacent wall I) and is rounded, as at 17, at the junction of its outer side wall with the front and rear end Walls of the drawer, and the outer surface of the said side wall of the drawer extends sinuously between the rear end and forward end of the drawer and conforms to the sinuous outline of the adjacent side edge of the top a, having two inward curves 15 and 15, corresponding to the inward curves 5 and 5 of the said edge, and
swelling and curving outwardly, as at 16, between the saidinward curves 15 and 15. Each drawer c has also a narrow ledge 19 extend ing along the outer surfaces of the outer side wall and forward end wall of the drawer at the bottom of the drawer.
The outward swell or curve 8 of the forward edge of the top a extends from one end portion 12 to the other end portion 12 of the front piece (:1. The forward edge of the top (1 curves inwardly'at each side of the walls I) and projects forwardly, as at 20, at the said walls.
The leading and characteristic and essential features of my design are the sinuous side edges of the top a and the correspondingly sinuously outlined outer surfaces of the outer side walls of the drawers.
What I claim is-- The design for a sewing-machine cabinet substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I sign the foregoing specification, in the presence of two witnesses, this 14th day of December, 1901, at Cleveland, Ohio.
THEODOR KUNDTZ.
Witnesses:
