GILBERT L. CROXVELL, JR, OF ARLINGTON, NEW JERSEY, ASSIGNOR TO DOMINIGK dz HAFF, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
DESIGN FOR A HANDLE FOR SPOONS, FORKS, 0R SIMILAR ARTICLES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 35,230, dated October 29, 1901.
Application filed September '7, 1901. Serial No. 74,705. Term of patent 14 years- To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GILBERT L. CROWELL, Jr., a citizen of the United States, residing at Arlington, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, have invented and produced a new and usefulDesign forHandles for Spoons, Forks, or Similar Articles, of which the following is a description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which illustrate the design.
Figure 1 is a plan or elevation view of the front or obverse side of a spoon, the handle of which embodies my design, the dotted lines showing how the handle may be applied to a fork. Fig. 2 is a similar view of the reverse or rear side of the spoon and handle. Fig. 3 is a cross-section on the plane a a of Fig. 1.
The general outline of the handle is of the pandurate or fiddle-shaped order. Both the front and rear faces are ornamented with the representation of vines A, bordering the edges thereof, and at intervals bearing clusters of leaves B, which spread themselves around the edges and onto the front and rear faces of the handle. These vines terminate in scrolllike ornamentations G, which, together with the flutings D, form the head of the handle.
On the obverse side of the handle emanate from these scrolls leaves, which form themselves into the acanthus-leaf design E, which spreads itself over the head of the spoon. The reverse side is substantially the same as the obverse side. The acanthus-leaf at the head of the handle, however, is omitted. On the bowl of the spoon is the representation of a cluster of acanthus-leaves F, which does not appear on the obverse side.
The essential features of this design consist of a handle for a spoon, fork, or similar article having a pandurate or fiddleshaped outline or form and vines emitting clusters of leaves at intervals extending along the opposite edges of both sides of the handle and terminating at its headin scroll ornamentations, between which are flutings.
What is claimed as new is The design for the handle of a spoon, fork or similar article, substantially as shown and described.
GILBERT L. CROWELL, JR.
