DESIGN FOR A PORTABLE BASKET-GRATE.

To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JOHN M. DQDD, a sub ject of the King of Great Britain, (but having declared myintenrion of becoming a citizen of the United States,) residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented and produced a certain new and original Design for Portable Basket-Grates, (Case 13,) of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to what is known in the trade as a portable basket-grate for fireplaces.
In the accompanying drawing,forming part of this specification, the invention is illustrated in perspective View.
As shown in the drawing, the leading or ma terial features of my design consist of a front piece having a curved (elliptical) top bar, from which apparently is suspended a shield having a central opening crossed by a diagonal grille, with garlands looped from the upper portion of opposite sides of the shield and extending to the centers of intaglio fluted scrolls which constitute the corner-posts, the intervening spaces being filled with tracery- Work. A conventionalized fleur-de-lis pendant extends from the base of the shield, and the shield and the pendant constitute the central feature of the front. The back has a double curve ending in horizontal portions, flanked by depending curves running out flat to the sides. In the center is a wreath in high relief, flanked by tracery-work also in high relief. The front feet have coved faces,-with a fern or leaf pattern in low relief.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The design for a portable basket-grate, substantially as herein shown and described.
