UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
DATUS 0. SMITH, or me YORK, N. Y.
DESIGN FOR BARBED FENCE- WIRE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 35,213, dated October 22, 190i. Application iiled July 18j 1901. Serial Nd. 63551. Term of patent 14 years.
5 of New York, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Barbed Fence- WVires 5 and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled [O in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
In the accompanying drawings, which are to be taken as a part of this specification, Figure 1 represents a plan view, and Fig. 2
I5 a side view, of a broken-away portion or section of a barbed fence-wire, showing my new design.
As shown in the drawings, the said barbed fence-wire consists of a single coiled wire A,
20 having short crimps or bends formed at suitable intervals therein, one being shown at B, and sharp-pointed barbs, one of which is denoted by the letter O, fixed on the wire at said crimps, the said barbs presenting the appear- 2 5 ance of prongs whose bases are coiled around different portions of. the crimp or bend, with a connecting portion bent or coiled tightly about the intermediate portion of the bend or bulge at an angle to said coils and prongs.
As will be seen, the leading or material features of my design reside in a single wire of coiled appearance or configuration having short crimps or bends formed at intervals therein and sharp-pointed barbs coiled or bent about the wire at the crimps in such manner that the members of the barb that encircle the wire present themselves at different angles to one another and also wind about different angles formed in the wire by the crimp, thus rigidly fixing the barb to the wire and leaving prongs projecting outwardly at an angle to the body of the wire.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The design for a barbed fence-wire, sub
stantially as herein shown and described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
