UNrTan STATES PATENT QFFICE.
DATUS 0. SMITH, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
DESIGN FOR BARBED FENCE-WIRE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 35,341, dated November 26, 1901.
Application filed September 10, 1901. Serial No- 74,963- Term of patent 14 years.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, DATUS C. SMITH, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented and produced a new, useful, and original Design for Barbed Fence-Wire, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompa nying drawings, forming a part thereof.
In the accompanying drawings, which are to be taken as a part of this specification, Figure 1 is a plan view, and Fig. 2 is a side view, of a broken-away portion or section of a barbed fence-wire, showing my new design.
As shown in the drawings, the said barbed fence-Wire consists of a single wire A, the same presenting the appearance of short crimps or waves extending throughout its length, said wire having barbs fixed thereon 20 at intervals, one of which barbs is shown at B, the said barbs having their intermediate portions tightly coiled around flattened spaces in the wire, said flattened spaces being formed so as to presenta flattened appearance or surface a, with lateral swells or protuberances b, which are embraced by the barbs, leaving prongs projecting outwardly at anangle to the body of the wire.
As will be seen, the leading or material features of my design reside in a single wire of crimped or wavy appearance throughout with barbs thereon at intervals having their intermediate portions tightly bent or coiled around flattened spaces in the wire, so as to leave prongs projecting outwardly at an angle to the body of the wire.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is
The design for a barbed fence-wire, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
DATUS 0. SMITH. Witnesses! Oseoon H. DoWELL, CHAS. E. RIORDON.
