UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
DA'IUS 0. SMITH, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
DESIGN FOR A BARBED FENCE-WIRE.
SPECIFICATION forming part or Design No. 34,662, dated j'une 11, 1901 Application filed April 18; 1901. Serial No. 56616. Tenn oi patent 14 years.
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, DATUS 0. SMITH, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Barbed Fence= Wires; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
In the accompanying drawing, which is to be taken as a part of this specification, I'have illustrated in side elevation a broken-off portion or section of a barbed fence-wire, show ing my new design.
As shown in the drawing, the barbed fencewire consists of an ordinary strand or wire A, having thereon at suitable intervals sharppointed barbs, one of which is denoted by the letter B and which appears coiled about the wire, with its tapered pointed prongs projecting outwardly therefrom at an angle to the body of the wire, the said wire beingpro= vided with enlargements or protuberances c a at a suitable distance apart on opposite sides of said barb.
As will be seen, the leading or material features of my design reside in a single 0rdi= nary round wire having annular protuberances or enlargements thereon at suitable intervals and barbs on the wire between said enlargements, having their intermediate por tions coiled around the wire and separating the points of the barbs, as shown.
Having thus described myinvention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is'- The design for a barbed fence-wire, substantially as herein shown and described.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
