Description
intd lteres @anni @Mitica W. B. BARTRAM, OF DANBURY, CONNECTICUT.
Design No. 3,478, daad' May 11,1869.
DIEISIGN FOR THE FRAME OF A SEWING-MACHINE.
To allwhom 'it may conce/m:
Be it known that I, W. B. BARTRAM, of Danbury, in the county of Fairfield, and 'State of Connecticut, have invented a new Design for Frame, 85o., of a Sewing-Machine; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which the figure represents a side elevation of my machine.
The frame A presents the form an'd appearance of a tapered bar, heut in the manner shown; that is to say, the larger end of said bar is joined to the convex disk B, which forms the `base of the machine. From this base, said bar is curved upward in an arc of a circle, until a point is reached about vertical to the side of the disk from which the bar A takes its rise.
From this point the bar is straight and horizontal until a point is reached from which a plummet would fall outside of the disk, and the bar then resumes its curved form in an arc of the same circle before de scribed.
The frame A terminates at a point which would mark the completion of about two-thirds of a circle from place of commencement on the disk B; and the general figure is that of a circle flattened.
llhe guide-head U is supported at the outer or smaller end of the frame A, and the sewing-table D is supported upon the arm E, Whose curve is convex to the curve of the bar A, '13. e., it is curved about a centre, which is located outside of the periphery of the framebar A.
The driving-shaft F passes across the frame A, and has its bearings at one end upon said frame, and at the other end in the head of the arm E, and the tension-case is located upon the side of bar A, above the bearing of the driving-shaft.
The driving-pulley G is located upon the end of the driving-shaft outside of the frame of the machine.
The driving-shaft presents a straight line across the lower part of the frame, and the straight line of the attened circle at the top of the frame is its foil.
The tension and driving-pulley presents a mass at one side, which is balanced by the guide-head and sewing-table upon the other side, so that the whole presents an arrangement of parts pleasing to the eye and convenient in use.
Having described my design,
What I claim, is-
The design for the frame of a sewing-machine herein set forth.
W. B. BARTRAM.
