TU ALL. WIIOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, WALIQEP` B. BARTMM, of Danbury, in the county of Fairfield, and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and useful Design for the Casting of a Sewing Machine; and I do hereby declareY thc following to hea full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference bcing had to the accompanying drawings, in which- The figure` represents a side elevation of my machine.
The frame A presents thc form and appearance of a tapered bar or rod, curved in a circle,'and forming about two-thirds of a complete circle. The larger end of this bar A is joined to a convex disk, B, which forms the base upon which the frame or har A and the sewing mechanism are supported. The uppei' or smaller end ofv the bar B supports the guide-head C, in which the presser-bar D and needle-bar F have their bearings. A little above the base B, and located upon the frame A', is the cylindrical case F, within which 'the spool G of sewingthread is placed. The needle-arm H corresponds in form with the frame A, and is pivoted 'thereto directly behind the spool-case F, so that this joint and the connection of the needle-arm to the. driving-pulley I, is` entirely concealed. From the front edge of the disk B, and joined to the larger end of the bar or frame A,
projects upward and forward, in a graceful curve, the stout arm J, upon the extended end of whichis the head K, upon which the sewing-table L is secured. The drving-shaft M has its bearings in the head K and in the frame A, behind the spool-case F. The form of the needle-arm corresponds with the form of the frame A, and the two present an unbroken curve from the guide-head C to the :spool-case F, imparting a'n air of grace and lightness. The head K and sewing-table on the one side are balanced by the spool-case and driving-pulley on theother; and altogether there is,presented an appearance of artistic proportion arrangement highly satis factory; while the large o'pen space, enclosed hy the frame and needle-arm, is very useful.
I claim the design for the cust-ing of a sewing machine, as shown, and described.
