TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, JOSEPH NAYLOR, of the city of Newark, in the county of Essex, and State of New Jersey, have produced a new and improved Design for a Copying-Press; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full and exact description of the same, reference being herein had to the accompanying drawings, which form part of this specification.
The drawing is a perspective view of the copying-press showing my design.
The invention or production relates to a new design in the ornamenting by peculiar shaping in some of the parts of the press, in order to enhance its neatness of appearance.
Z represents the base of the press, which is of a rectangular form, having an ovale bead, W, around its upper edge, and an octangular projection, Y, at the centre of each end, with lugs,X, through which screw-bolts pass to secure the press tothe table or bench; the ovalo W extending around the upper edges, and below the ovalo W has an octagonal projection, V. The platen, U, is of a rectangular form, with a top regnlarlyiucreasing in thickness from the edges to the middle; the socket t, of the screw S, being cylindrical, having a square base, r. P P are the usual straight pillars forming guides to the platen U when it is moved by the screw S. The cross-bar O is secured to the pillars by the ornamental cap-nuts n. The screw S passes through the crossbnr O, is provided with a handle, m, secured to it by the cap-unt l; the middle of the handle being of an octagonal form for about one inch from the centre, and the handles extending therefrom are round, and are straight in their length.
I do not claim the yoke 0, or pillars P P, screw S, and platen U, as new in themselves, these parts having been long used in copying-presses; the parts constituting the new features of my press being the handle m, with the octagonal ornamental central portion, tbe angular lugs X Y V, and the beaded edge n, around the bedplate having the ornamental lugs X Y V.
What I claim, therefore, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
'lhe design for the handle m, lugs X Y V, and bed-plate Z, as ornamental portions of a copying-prcss, as shown and described.
JOSEPH NAYLOR.
