Description

M. DEWEY. Soap Holder for Sewing Machines.
N5. 97,392 Patented Dec. 14,1869.
UNITED STATES PATENT OEEIoE.
MARY DEWEY, OF NEW ALBANY, INDIANA.
IMPROVEMENT IN SOAP-HOLDING ATTACHMENT FOR SEWING-MACHINE.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 97,892, dated December 14, 1869 antedated December 10, 1869;
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, MARY DEWEY, of New Albany, in the county of Floyd and State of Indiana, have invented a new and Improved Sewing-Machine Soap-Holder; and I do herebydeclare that the following is a full, clear,
andexact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being hadv to the accompanying drawing, forming partrof this specito enabletheneedle and thread to pass through the cloth with greater facility.
A, in the drawing, represents a short tube, fastened in a vertical position to two (or more or less) horizontal spring-arms, B B, which can be secured to the presser-foot of a sewingmachiue.
The two arms B shown in the drawing are represented as provided with grooved inner edges, so that they may be fitted readily upon the end of a resser-foot. They may, how ever, be otherwise attached to the presser-foot in suitable manner.
The tube is or may be provided with an inner curved plate, 0, that is regulated by means of a'sinall set-screw, a, and that serves to secure a stick of soap, D, in the tube. The presser-foot, when forced down, will hold the lower end of the stick of soap upon the face of the cloth, and the latter will therefore be soaped before the needle passes through it.
The stick of soap, as it is being worn, can be i moved down in the tube to remain in contact with the cloth as long as required.
The holder A may, instead of being of lindrical form, he made prismatic or otherwise, as may be desired.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A soap-holder attachment constructed asdescribed, and arranged on the presser-foot of a sewing maclnne, substantially as herein shown and described.
MARY DEWEY.
