IMPROVEMENT IN SPOOL-HOLDERS FOB. SEWING MACHINES.

TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN Be it known that I, WILLIAM Wnnnrou, of the city of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings, and State of New York, have made a new and useful Improvement in Bobbin or Spool-Holders for Sewing Machines; and I hereby declare thefollowing to bee full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which are lettered to correspond with and form a. part of the specification.
To enable the public to fully understand the nature of my invention, and those who are skilled in the mechanical arts to construct and use the same, I will describe as follows, to wit:
Figure 1 is a perspective drawing of my improved spool or bobbin-holder to be applied to any sewing machine.
Letter A is a revolving cylinder, provided with an upper section or extending tube, A, of any suitable shape to hold the spool B, that will prevent it (the spool) from turning independentlyof the cylinder A. Letter 0 is a sot-screw, which is attached to and forms a. part of the horizontal adjustable plate 0?, whose opposite end is turned up'to receive and ,hold the spring s, in contact with or free from the cylinder A when operated by the set-screw 0. Letter e is a stationary plate that? is fastened to the sewing machine.
Figure 53 is a perspective drawing of the plates cl and 2, spring 8, and screw 0, also showing the spindle or rod N upon which the cylinder A A revolves. This rod passes through an elongated slot in plate d, and is firmly fastened to the stationary plate 2. The spring .9 may be substituted by a spiral or rubber spring if thought best, therefore I do not confine myself to the fiat spring alone, but use that which is themost suitable for the time and place. The novelty of my inven tion consists in the construction of a cylindrical spool-holder A A, revolving upon a spindle or vertical shaft N, a-nd regulating the same by means of the springs, or its equivalent, operated by the set-screw.c. Thesuperiority of my improved spool-holder over those that are in common use is that I am enabled to regulateand prevent the slack of the thread from the'spool by the most delicate action of the spring 8, and thus dispense with' weights and other apparatus usually employed to prevent the spool from turning too fast.
Therefore what I claim as novel and useful, and What I wish to secure by Letters Patent of the United. States, is-
The cylinder A A, spring 8 or its equivalent, screw 0, horizontal plates at and 6, combined and operated in the manner and for the purpose set forth and shown in the accompanying drawings.
In testimony whereof I hereunto subscribe my name in the presence of two witnesses.
