, 'lhat I, LUoiUs Jlxownns, of Warren, county of Worcester, and Conm'mnwealth ot' lvlassachnsetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements 'in Qniliers; and I do' hereby declare that the. following is a full, clear, and exact descriptidn of the same, reference being had to` the accoinpzurving drawings, forming a part. ot' this specitication, in which- Figure l 'represents a iront view ot' my improved quiller;

To enable those skilled in the art to which` my invention belongs, toV make. and use the same, I will proceed to describe it more in detail.
The part indicated by the letter A is the driving'- shat't, furnished 'with a tight pulley, B, and loose pulley, C, to which the powerisA applped by means of a belt.

By this mode of construction, the cam H can readily he adjusted to windihobbins or cops of different lengths.
The winding-guide l is provided with a pin, 7i, which rests against and is moved by the lace ot cam H; andat its lower end it is pivoted on the stud J, said stud being secured in a slotted hanger, that -projects downward from the main lrame E.
The, winding-guide l is made in the form of a bellcrank, as shown in fig. l, and a weight, K, is hung on the-projecting part g, to keep the stud hin contact with the cam H.- At the top Iof the winding-guide I, is a glass tip or curl, in, forholding and guiding the thread. The
glass curl mis cemented into-an opening, formed in the top end ot? the metallic arm L.
By the use of glass for the curlm, there is much less friction on the thread than there would be with any other material, and the thread is not liable to become injured or broken.

The bobbin F is held in place on the spindled by a bolt, k, arranged in 'the upper end ot' an arm, L which is pivoted to the main frame E.
The point ot' the bolt is turned, fora short distance, to the same dia-meter as the spindle d, so that it will fit into the und ofthe bohbin li, while it can easily be drawn out, by swinging back the arm L, when the bobhin is to hexemoved from the spindle.
The boltk is secured to the arm L, and made adjustable by a set-screw, l.
The bobhin F is prevented from turning on the spindle (l by a pin, a, in the end ot' the shaft A, that tits into a hole in the head ol' the bohbin.
A disk, M, is formed at thc lower end of arm L,
through which passes the pivot-screw o, thatscrews vinto the frame E, anda weight, N, is attached to a` projecting portion ot' said disk, at p, which tends to press the bolt k againstthe bobhin F.
A pin, q, projecting from the l'rame E, is arranged in a recess in theedge ot' the disk M, to prevent the arm L from swinging too. far in either direction.
In rear ot the main shaft A, and turning in been ings S, on the frame D, is a shatt, P, upon which is cut, in rear of the pulleys B and G, a screw-thread, t, and upon which is arranged the shipper R, the form of which is fully indicated in the drawings.
An opening is formed through the shipper R, having at its top a screw-thread, to tit the thread t on the shaft P, while the lower halt' of. said opening is large enough to clear the shaft, so that the shipper may be raised and moved along the shaft when desired but when not so raised, it can only be moved by the screw on shaft P. v
To the end of shaft I), inthe rear of the bobbn F,
is secnreda leather roll, T, which is large enough to' strike the thread when thc bobbin is full; the operation being as follows:
,The bolt la is'drawn back, and `an empty bob-bin or cop-tube is placed upon the spindle d, the thread is passed through the curl m., and attached to the bobbin. Then, by raising the' shipper It, and moving it tothe left, the belt is carried on to the pulley B, which sets the machine in motion.
The winding-guide I is caused, by themovement of cam H, to swing, carrying the curl in, which holds the thread, back and tbrt-h in front ofthe bobbin, upon which the thread is wound, in a very even and regular manner.
When the bobbin is filled to vthe proper size, the thread. presses against the face ofv the 7leather roll 'l, which is caused, by friction thereon, to revolve the shaft- 1, and the action ofthe screw 'upon' theshipper 1t carries the beltI to the-loose pulley (l, thereby stopping the motion of the -machine, when the filled bobbin, or cop, as the case may be, can be removed, and the. operationrepeated.
The main frame E is provided with a backwardprojecting tiange, V, which isfastenedto the plate XV by the bolt w, and the pate W isscrewed to the frame ofthe loom, on which the quiller is to be used. Y

l. The combination and relative arrangement, with the screw-shaft P and pulleys B and C, of the shipper R and wheel T, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
2. rIhe combination, with the adj ustabie cam H, of the vibratery winding-guide I, itspi'vot J and slotted hanger, in which such pivot'is held and adjusted, sub` stantially as and forthe purposes set forth.
3. The combination of the fra-lne E and Weighted arm L, having" the recessed disk M, with the pin q, said parts beiney constructed and arranged substantially as-and for the purposes set forth.
4, The combination, with the frame E, of the projection V and forked arm W, hinged or pivoted to said, projectioxniso as to admit ofthe turning of the (puller-frame, according as it is used upon a. right or left-handed loom, substantially` as and for the pur-l poses set forth.
5. A quiller, the parts ot' which are' constructed, combined, and arranged,-in relation toleaoh other, as shown in the drawings, and above described.
