IMPROVEMENT IN HAND-SPINNING- MACHINE,

The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and lmaking part of the name;

.To` all whom it 'may concern.-

Be it known that I, JAMES RICE, of Prairie Creek, in the county of Vigo, and State of lndiana,`have ,invented a uew'and improved Hand-Spiuniug Machine; and I do hereby dec-lare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, lornliug part of this Specification.

The object of this invention is to provide a handspiuuiug machine, which may be realhy adjusted as to height, so that the operator may work it when either standing or sitting.

It is also arranged for enclosing the gearing in a case, for safety, and for a better appearance.

Figure 1 represents an elevation, partly in section, of my improved machine, and

A represents a case for containing the operatingparts, supported on a stand, B, by an extension-support, C C', the part C being arranged to slide up and down on the part C, and to be supported at any point .by a piu, D, passing through holes in the said part C.

E represents a horizontal-toothed drivingwheel,

supported in the vase A on a vertical axis, F, which y rises up through the top of the case, and is provided with a hand-crank, G.

lliisgear\vheel opera-tes an intermediate shaft, H, carrying a pulley, which imparts motion-t0 the spindle I, supported in bearings capable of heilig adjusted vertically on the stock K, which may-be secured at any desired point, for tightening' the belt or otherwise.

This arrangement provides a very simple, cheap, aud convenient machine tor household-use, which may be adjusted to any required height, for any person,

either standing or sitting.

Having thus described my invention,

I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patentlhe arrangement of case A, driving-wheel E, vertical axis F, Ianni-crank G, the intermediate shaft and pulley and spindle I, with the adjustable stand B C and pin D, all constructed as described.
