IMPROVEMENT IN CHURNS.
Specication forming part of Letters Patent No. 88,529. dated March 30, 1869.
.To all whom 'it 'may concern:
Be it known that I, JosrAH A. TICE, of Windsor, in the county of Shelby and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement on Ohurning-Machines; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference heilig had to the annexed drawings, making part of this specification, in which- Figure l is a perspective view. Fig. 2is a sectional View of the jointed journal-box.
I construct an upright frame, as shown by Fig. l, within whichI placea churn ot' the usual form, with cover and flasher, such as are generally used, as shown by a b in the accompanying drawings. At the top of theframe, I aix a jointed journal-box, secured to the frame, the outer end by screws, and the inner end by means of' a pin of wood or metal, as is shown at c in the accompanying drawings. Through this journal-box the dasher plays up and down.
To the dasher is afxed, by a movable clasp, secured to the same at any point desired by a thumb-screw, a piston-rod, as shown at d in the accompanying drawings.
By means of the cog-wheels, arranged as shown at e, constructed of any desirable size, and attached to the piston-rod by a cam, as shown at f in the accompanying drawings, the machine is worked.
By means of the clasp at the lower end of the piston-rod cl the stroke of the dasher can be len gthened or shortened, as may be desirable.
By removing the pin holding the inner end of the jointed journal-box c and the thumbscrew from the clasp d the churn can be readily removed from the frame for filling, emptying, cleansing, or any other purpose. N
The ease with which the churn can be removed from the frame and the mode of regulating the stroke of the dasher are believed to be superior to that of any other device.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The arrangement and combination of the jointed journal-box o, the piston-rod and clasp d, with the cani and cog-wheels e, and churn and dasher c b, for the purpose and in the manner above set forth.
