/N VENTOR WITNESSES A TTOHNEYS UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOSEPH SMITH, OF TAUNTON, MASSACHUSETTS, ASSIGNOR TO THE REED & BARTON CORPORATION, OF SAME PLACE AND NEW YORK, N. Y.
DESIGN FOR A HANDLE FOR SPOONS, FORKS, OR SIMILAR ARTICLES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 32,679, dated May 22, 1900.
Application filed April 4,1900. Serial No. 11,535 Terin of patent 14 years.
To LtZZ 74/71/0722, it may concern/.-
Be it known that I, JOSEPH SMITH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Taunton, in the county of Bristol and State of Massachusetts, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Handles for Spoons, Forks, or Similar Articles, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming part thereof.
The figure is a front face view of my design for the handles of forks, showing in dotted lines its application to spoons.
The outline or marginal contour of the handle, as consisting of a broad end and aswelled projection near it tapering into a narrow shank to the fork-head, is not claimed as presenting any novelty in itself.
The essential features of the design are to be found in the raised ornamentation in relief. This consists of an orchid bloom A,
spread upon the broad end of the handle and extending part the way down upon the con- 0 and a.
vex panel B, which is flanked on each side with a marginal border of elongated leaves Another orchid-bloom C is displayed on the swelled intermediate portion of the handle, and below it on the shank are long leaves a and a small orchid-bloom Z), the leaves being extended below and spread upon the broad head of the fork or bowl of the spoon, as the case may be.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The design for a handle for spoons, forks, or similar articles substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses. h p
