UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN W. CULMER, Ob CLEVELAND, OIIIO, ASSIGNOR TO TIIE NATIONAL COMPUTING SCALE COMPANY, OF SAME PLACE.
DESIGN FOR A BASE FOR SCALES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 31,855, dated November 21, 1899.
Application filed Uttober 27, 1899. Serial No. 734,991. Term of patent 14 years.
To all whom it may concern:
30 it known that I, JOHN W. CULMER, acitizen of the United States, residing at Cleveland, county of Cuyahoga, and State of Ohio,
have invented and produced a new and origithe said top plates b b, extends inward from nal Design for Bases for Scales, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part thereof.
Figure l is a plan view of a base fora scale, showingmynew design. Fig. iisasideelevation thereof, and Figs. 3 and 4 are respectively vertical sectional views on the lines 3 3 and 4 4 of Fig. 1.
The leading or material features of my design relate to the shape of said base, which is substantially as shown, and may be described as follows: The base consists of ahollow body A, which when viewed from above is of substantially circular form, except that two short arms B B extend outwardly therefrom and lie at an angle approximately of sixty degrees to one another. Each of these arms has a rounded outer end, and its sides curve outwardly and are merged into the circular periphery of the body. The tops of the arms are closed over by the thin integral plates b b, and a narrow flange a, which is in the same plane with the top edge of the side wall of the body, which bodyhas, therefore, an open center. The side walls C of the body and of the arms are curved inward from the bottom to the top, whereby the top of the base is smaller than the bottom, although similar in shape.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The design for a base for a scale as herein shown and described.
In testimony whereof I hereunto affix my signature in the presence of two Witnesses.
