DESlGN FOR A MANHOLE-COVER.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 30,808, dated May 16, 1899. Application filed April 6, 1899. Serial No. 712,022. Term of patent 14 years.

To all whom it may concern;

Be it known that I, THOMAS P. GREGER, a citizen of the United States, residing at the city of Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented aud produced a new and original Design for a Manhole-Cover, of which the following is a specification, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, forming part thereof, in which- Figure 1 is a top or plan view of a manholecover embodying my design, and Fig. 2 is a cross-sectional view of Fig. 1.

The views are deemed necessary or essential for the proper illustration and understanding of the design of my invention.

The leading feature of my present design consists of the configuration oroutline, as Well as the surface ornamentatiomof the manholecover.

Referring to the drawings, the cover when viewed in plan presents the appearance of a. circular field a inciosed within two concentrically-arranged rings or annular rims b and d, the inner ring at being rounded or curved on its uppersurface, while the outer ring bis flat, or substantially so. Within the field a and at points radiating from the center of the field are grouped aseries of ring-shaped ornaments 30 f, the upper faces of which are flat, or substantially so. When viewed in cross-section, the coveris substantially dish-shaped and has a base g, which is inwardly bulged or con vexly arranged, as at g, toward the center of the field a. The rim of the cover, which terminates at the top in the outer ring I) of the field a, is offset and rounded, as at h, to form theinner ring d, surrounding the field oz. The ring (1, therefore, is below the ringb. The convex base g of the cover rises in the form of an arch from an annuiar ringk, depending below the base at the periphery or rim of the cover, and the point of junction of the ring it with the base g is rounded, as at It. From the base g projects a series of tubes m, the upper faces of which form the ring-shaped ornamentsfof the cover.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

The design for a manhole-cover, substantially as herein shown and described.
