MANHOLE COVER.
(Applicnion Med Apr. 6' 1899\ city of Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have in- UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
THOMAS P. GREGER, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
DESlGN FOR A MANHOLE-COVER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 30,806, dated May 16, 1899. Application filed April 6, 1899. Serial No. 712.018. Term of patent M years.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, 'Inonns P. GREGER, a citizen of the United States, residing at the vented and produced a new and original Design for a Manhole-Cover, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part thereof, in which Figure l is a top or plan view of a manhole-cover embodying my design, and Fig. 2 is a cross-sectional view on the line a: a: of Fig. 1.
The views are deemed necessary and essential for the proper illustration of the design.
The main feature of my design for manhole-covers resides in the surface ornamentation and the configuration or outline of the cover.
Referring to the drawings, 6: represents the body of the cover, which is cup-shaped and is circular or round in plan view. When viewed in plan, the cover has the appearance of an annular ring or rim 6, inclosing a field d of substantially circular outline. At two diametrical points of the cover and projecting into the field (I from the annular rim h are arranged the two substantially oblong ornamcntsffithe corners of which are rounded, as at f. The surface of each of these ornaments f f is ornamented with a trefoil-like depression g, one of the points g of which extends toward the rim 1), while the other points are arranged at right angles to the point g and inclose a rounded bar-shaped 0rnament 5 The base of the cover when viewed in cross-section has a base it, which is inwardly bulged, as at it, toward the center of the field d, and the inner and outer peripheries of the rim 1) are tapered, as at b and b, in a downward direction.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The design for a manhole-cover, substantially as herein shown and described.'
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my signature in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
THOMAS P. GREGER.
