To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOSEPH H. In its entirety the article of manufacture embodying my design is shown as a rockingchair having a substantially rectangular seat 2, supported upon standards 3 3 and It 4,which are in turn mounted at their lower ends on rockers. The standards 3 3 project upwardly beyond the seat, and arms 5 5 connect them with the rear standards or uprights 4 4C, the upper ends of Which are indicated at a a.
The leading or characteristic features of my design, therefore, comprise the shape or configuration of the chair, as above noted, and the peculiar conformation and delineation of the back of the chair, together With ,the arrangement of the various parts thereof to present contrasting colors or shades, thereby affording a pleasing appearance to the eye.
Said back of the chair is provided with two uprights a a, between which the portion b extends, the latter heilig shown as rectangular. The said portion Z) is Woven of cane in contrasting alternating stripes c c'. The first six stripes extend entirely thereacross, and the succeeding seven stripes of contrasting color extend partially across the same. The space at the upper left corner e not covered by the stripes is of a third contrasting color. A geometrical design, consisting of strips of cane (l of a color contrasting to that of the space e, is formed in the square space e, the strips of cane being crossed to form the appearance of stars. The back of the chair presents the appearance of a iiag or emblem supported at both sides bystandards. tion b is undulatory or waving, as indicated, and at the top and bottoni edges of the same there are cross-bars, whereby the Whole geometrical design, with its contrasting shades and colors, is confined Within afi-ame comprising the said cross-bars and the uprights a a..
