Description

DESIGN.
T.ROGERS. DRINKING 0UP.
No. 27,886. Patented Nov. 23,1897.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
TIMOTHY ROGERS, OF DAYTON, OHIO.
DESIGN FOR A DRINKING-CUP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 27,886, dated November 23,1897.
Application filed October 14:,189'7. Serial No. 655,225. Term of patent 3% years- To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Beit known that I, TIMOTHY ROGERS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Dayton, in the county of Montgomery and State of Ohio, have invented a new and original Design for Drinking-Cups, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a new and original design for a drinking-cup; and it has for its object to provide a design of this character that shall be both useful and ornamental.
The leading feature of the design resides in a cup-body having an exterior longitudinal spout projection, provided at its upper end with an offstanding right-angularly-disposed mouthpiece and a handle arranged in a plane at right angles to the plane of the spout projection and provided at its upper and lower corners with rounded projections having concaved faces at one side.
A minor feature of the design resides in having said mouthpiece of an elliptical form in cross-section and said concaved handle projections also of an approximately elliptical form, with the lower of said concaved handle projections having a slight spiral twist or curvature.
Additional minor features of the design may be stated to be to provide the cup-body with a triangular web arranged between the body and the upper end portion of the spout projection and to provide the offstanding handle with short end pieces which flare inwardly toward the cup-body, with which they connect.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a drinking-cup embodying the hereindescribed design. Fig. 2 is a side elevation thereof. Fig. 3 is a similar view showing the cup in a plane at right angles to the position illustrated in Fig. 2.
The numeral 1 designates a cylindrical body provided at its lower edge with an exterior rounded bead 2 and at one side with an exterior longitudinal cylindrical spout projection 3. The spout projection 3 extends lengthwise of the cup-body 1 nearly the entire length thereof, and has curved outwardly from its upper end and at right angles thereto an offstanding mouthpiece 4, which is elongated laterally and is substantially of an elliptical shape in cross-section. At the point where the spout projection 3 curves into the mouthpiece 4 the body 1 is further provided with a triangular web portion 5, arranged between the body and the upper end portion of the spout projection.
The cup-body is further provided with an oifstanding verticallydisposed handle 6, which is arranged in a plane at right angles to the plane of the spout projection 3, and essentially comprises the vertical rounded grasp 7 and the upper and lower short end pieces 8, which connect the extremities of the grasp 7 with the cup-body, and said short end pieces 8 are flared in an inward direction toward said body. At the upper and lower ends of the grasp 7 of the handle the latter is provided with rounded projections 9 and 10, respectively, which are disposed somewhat obliquely to the grasp 7 and are provided with concavities 11 at one side. The concavities ll of the projections 9 and 10 are approximately elliptical in form, and the lower of said projections 10 is provided with a slight spiral twist or curvature.
What I claim is- The design for a drinking-cup herein shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
TIMOTHY ROGERS.
