Be it known that I, CHARLES E. IRWIN, of Peabody, county ot Marion, and State of Kansas, have invented a new and useful Im-` provement in Watering-Tanks, of which the following is a specication.

The object of this invention is to produce a metallic tank or tub for use more particularly as a stock-watering tank which will combine extreme strength an d d u rability with simplicity'of construction.

VVith this end in view I construct the body ot the tank of sheet metal and slit or incise the upper edge at intervals to form lips and secure a rim consisting of hollow pipe to the body by bending these lips outward around the rim.

The invention also consists in the details of construction and combination of parts hereinafter described and claimed.

Further, the construction insures the rigidity of the tank at its upper edge and will eiectually withstand the rough usage to which such tanks are subjected in practice. Further, it will be noted that by reason of the extension of the lips beneath the rim and in the angle between the .outer side of the body portion and the rim, as shown in Fig. 2, they will be protected and there will be little liability of Abending' them out of place.

vThe body portion of the tank may be `formed of several sections of sheet metal, as

shown in Fig. l, suitably secured together, or it may be formedof a single sheet bent into cylindrical form, as may be desired, the essential requirement being, as regards my invention, that the upper edge ofthe body be slit to form lips and the latter bent around the rim to hold it in place'.

I propose to connect the ends-of the pipe to form a smooth unobstructed joint by means of a filling-piece C in the form of a section of pipe or a plug, which is inserted in the meeting ends of the pipe, as shown in Fig. 3, and firmly secured to the same by means of rivets c or other suitable fastening devices.

My improved tank is simple in construction, of vextreme'strength and durability, is neat in appearance, and can be employed for watering stock without risk of injury to the same.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim is- I. As a new article'of manufacturetheimproved tank comprising a sheet-metal body having its upper edge slit to form lips an'd arim of iron pipe bent into form with its ends connected together and surrounding the body with the lips bent outward around and inclosing said rim'.
