DESIGN FOR A GLASS OR LENS.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 27,701, dated September 28, 1897.

Application filed May 28,1897. Serial No. 638,639. Term of patent 14 years.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, JACOB MARK, of New York, in the county of New York, and in the State of New York, have invented a certain new and original Design for Lenses or Glasses for Illuminating-Gratings; and I do hereby declare that the following isa full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference beinghad to the accompanying drawings, in which-- Figure 1 is a perspective view of a lens embodying my design; Fig. 2, a plan view thereof, and Fig. 3 a section on line :0 .1 of Fig. 2.

Letters of like name and kind refer to like parts in each of the figures.

The object of my invention is to provide an ornamental design or configuration for lenses or glasses for illunlmating-gratings; and to this end said invention consists in the design I for a lens or glass, substantially as hcreinaf- 1 ter set forth.

The leading feature of my design for a lens for the transmission and distribution oflight consists of a series of similar radiating ribs on the lens that are semicircular, or substantially semicircular, in cross-section and gradually increase in size from their inner ends outward.

In the embodiment of my design as illustrated in the drawings I show a lens or glass having a body A, that is hexagonal in outline, with one face flat or plane and its other face provided with a series of ribs 1 and 13, that radiate from a common point and taper or gradually increase in size from their inner to their outer sides. Said ribs are semicircular in cross-section, and their outer ends are plane and stand perpendicular to the plane of the bodyof the glass. Longitudinally each rib has its surface formed on a slight compound curve, the convex part of the latter being the inner portion of the rib and the concave the outer portion. At the center from which the ribs radiate a convex boss may be placed, but this may be omitted without altering the appearance of the design.

Not only is my glass handsome by reason of its configuration, but its beauty is increased by the light efforts upon it.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim is- The design for a glass or lens, substantially as herein set forth.
