UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES EDWARD IIAVILAND, OF LIMOGES, FRANCE.
DESIGN FOR A COVERED DISH.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 24,169, dated April 2, 1895.
Application filed December 13, 1894- Serial No. 531,729.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, CHARLES EDWARD H AVI- LAND, a citizen of the United States, residing at the city of Limoges, in the Republic of France, have invented and produced a new and original Design for a Covered Dish, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanyingdrawings,
forming part thereof, in which- Figure 1 is a top view of a covered dish hearing my design. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of same; and Fig. 3 is a detached sectional view through a portion of same on the dotted line 33 of Fig. 1.
The leading feature of my design consists in the new and original and ornamental form, shape and configuration of the covered dish, as shown in the drawings forming a part of this application.
In the drawings A designates the body of the dish and B the cover thereof, the cover havinga suitable handle 0 and the said body Asuitable handles D. The form of the cover of the dish is more clearly illustrated in Fig. 1, in which it will be observed that the edges of the said cover are formed with the sealloped sections E which merge into each other on graceful lines as shown in the drawings Term of patent 7 years.
and thereby impart a distinctive character to the design. The central portion of the cover Bis raised as at F and this raised portion of the cover is surrounded bythe continuous elevation G from which the cover gradually inclines outward on graceful lines to the sealloped sections E. The body of the dish is formed with the curved sides rising from the base if and having the scalloped sections I which harmonize with the scalloped sections E of the cover B, as shown, and which sections I merge into each other on very gradual and graceful lines and add to the distinctive character of the design.
The general form and shape of the bodyA and coverB constitute a harmonious and attractive outline.
What I claim is- The design for a covered dish, substantially as shown and described.
Signed at the city of Limoges, in the Republic of France, this 23d day of November, A. I). 1894.
