DESIGN.
J. MARK. GLASS 0R LENS.
Patented Sept. 28, 1897.
UNITED STATES .l APO]; MAR K, (J I PATENT OFFICE.
XIHY YORK, X. Y.
DESIGN FOR A GLASS OR LENS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 27,702, dated September 28, 1897'.
Application filed May 28,1897. Serial No. 638.640. Term of patent 14 years.
0 (ZZZ 1071.01)? 2'2 mug concern:
Be it known that I, JACOB MARK, of New York, in the county of New Yorlc,a11d in the State of New York, have invented a certain new and original Design for Lenses or Glasses for Illuminating-Gratings; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference bcinghad to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l is a perspective view of a lens embodying my design; Fig. 2, a plan view thereof, and Fig. I} a section on line .1: .r of Fig. 2.
Letters of like name and kind refer to like parts in each of the figures.
The object of my invention is to provide an ornamental design or configuration for lenses or glasses for illuminating-gratings;
and to this end said invention consists in the design fora lens or glass, substantially as hereinafter set forth.
The leading feature of my design for a lens for the transmission and distribution of light consists of a center piece that is crossed by a number of small ribs, and a series of larger ribs that radiate from such center piece.
In the embodiment of my design as illustrated in the drawings I show a lens or glass having a body A that is hexagonal in outline with one face flat or plane. At its center on its other face there is a raised circular center piece B, whose surface is curved convexly and is crossed by a number of equidistant radial ribs C and (h The periphery of the center piece is scalloped, and from each scallop there extends radially a rib I), that is semicircular or substantially semicircular in cross section and tapers or gradually increases in size toward its outer end, which is a fiat surface lying in a plane at right angle to the length of the rib. Longitudinally the surface of the rib is formed on a slight compound curve, the inner portion being con vex and the outer portion concave.
Not only is my glass handsome by reason of its configuration, but its beauty is increased by the light etfeets upon it.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is- The design for a glass or lens, substantially as herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand, this 26th day of May, 1897.
JACOB MARK.
