SIECIFIGATION forming part of Design No. 27,289, dated July 6, 1897.
To all whom it may concern,
Be it known that I, LUDVIG S. IPSEN, a subjeet of the King of Denmark, residing at Malden, in the county of Middlesex and State of Massachusetts, have invented and produced a new and original Design to be Used as a Decoration for Plates, Cups, and Analogous Artieles of Crockery and Porcelain \Vare, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, which shows the same as applied to a plate.
The leading features of this design consist of a border for plates and other articles of crockery and porcelain, defined by two parallel border-lines broken at intervals and the broken ends curved inward, fcstoons of flowers and leaves attached to these curved ends of the outer border-line by bows of ribbon, and by the same bows wreaths of leaves fastened over the festoons. \ithin the circle "of each wreath is a conventional fieur-de-lis.
A further ornament, which may be termed a coat of arms, to be used in connection with the above-described border, consists of a shield ornamented with the ileur-de-lis, a

crown over the top of the shield, and a wreath of leaves, tied with a ribbon, entirely encircling the whole. This ornament is to be used in the center of plates and dishes of a similar character, as illustrated in the drawing, and upon the sides of deep dishes, such as cups, tureens, &c.
\V'hat I claim is 1. In the decorative design for plates and analogous articles of crockery and porcelain 5 ware, the border, com prising two border-lines broken at regular intervals and having between theln festoons of flowers and leaves, tied with ribbons at the several breaks in the lines; wreaths of leaves held by the ribbons 40 at the same points and a fleur-de-lis within the said wreaths, substantially as set forth.
2. The decorative design forplates and analogous articles of erockeryand porcelain ware, comprising the ornamental border and coat of arms herein described and shown.
