DESIGN.
H. 0. PEABODY. CHIN REST FOR VIOLINS.
No. 27,242. Patented June 22, 1897.
2. I win llllllwlwfill UNITED STATES HENRY O. IEABODY, OF
PATENT OFFICE.
BOITON, )[ASSACHUSETTS.
DESIGN FOR A CHIN-REST FOR VIOLINS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 27,242, dated June 22, 1897. Application filed May '7, 1897. Serial No. 635,596. Term of patent 14 years.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY O. PEABODY, of Boston, in the county of Sufiolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Chin-Rests for Violins, of which the following, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part thereof.
Figure 1 of the drawings is a plan view of a chin-rest, showim my new design. Fig. 2 is an elevation of the same, looking toward the top of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is an elevation looking in the opposite direction. Fig. 4 is a sectional elevation, the cutting-plane being on line a a: on Fig. 1 and looking toward the right of said figure; and Fig. 5 is an inverted plan.
As shown in the drawings, the leading or material feature of my design consists of a thin curved plate a, having an outline in plan ap 'iroximating an oval or egg shape and provided on one edge with a downwardlyprojecting rib b of considerable thickness extending from the most-pointed end of said plate about two-thirds, more or less, of the length of said plate toward its other end and having a flat under surface to bear upon the violin, that portion a of said plate which extends beyond the end of said rib being curved upward to a considerably-greater height than any other portion thereof, and the whole of said upper surface of said plate being transversely inclined to the plane of the flat under surface of the rib I), as shown in Fig. 4. The outer face of the rib Z) has formed therein the two holes c to receive turnbuekles for securing it to the violin, and (I dare bosses upon the inner face of the rib b to give greater thickness ofstock to receive said turnbueklcs, as indicated in Fig. 5.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The design for a china-est for violins as herein shown and described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification, in the presence of two subscribing witnesses, on this th day of May, A. D. 1897.
HENRY O. IEAHODY.
Witnesses:
