@ENTOR UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
SIDNEY SMITH, OF BRIDGEPORT, CONNECTICUT, ASSIGNOR TO THE HOLMES &: EDlVAItDS SILVER COMPANY, OF SAME PLACE.
DESIGN FOR A SPOON OR FORK HANDLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 27,164, dated June 8, 1897.
Application filed March 27, 1897.- Serial No. 629,615. Term of patent '7 years.
To (LZZ whont it may concern:
Be it known that I, SIDNEY SMITH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Bridgeport, in the county of Fairfield and State of Con- 5 necticut, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Spoon or Fork Handles; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accom- 1o panying drawings, forming a part thereof, in
which- Figure 1 represents a front or obverse view of the spoon or fork handle, and Fig. 2 repre' sents a reverse view of the same.
The leading feature of my design consists in a spoon or fork handle the edges of the stem of which are straight, but tapering toward the lower end, and the side edges of the outer or panel portion of thehandle being also 20 straight and tapering toward the stem, the
margins of the obverse and reverse sides having beads and scroll ornaments.
The panel portion or outer end of the handle is indicated at A, and the straight side 25 edges 1 thereof approach each other or taper toward the stem, while the upper ends of said side edges are curved toward each other, as at 2, and terminate in a rounded tip 3. The stem B has straight edges 4-, which approach 0 each other or taper in the same direction as the side edges 1 of the panel portion A, the upper ends of the edges 4 termiuatingin outward curves 5, which meet the lower ends of the edges 1 rather abruptly, so as to form shoulders (3. Both surfaces or sides of the 5 stem are provided with straight ribs 7 parallel with and close to the edges 4, the upper ends of the ribs terminating in scrolls 8. Above the scrolls 8 on the obverse side of the panel portion A are beads 9, located on marginal o fields between which is a smooth field 10. The upper portion of the field 10 is bounded by foliate scrolls 11 and beads 12.
()n the reverse side of the portion A of the handle is a smooth field 13, bounded by light 5 lines ll and scroll ornaments 15 and 1G. The lower end of the stem terminates in a portion having ogee edges and havingbead ornaments 17 on the obverse surface and scroll ornaments 18 on the reverse surface.
\Vhat I claim is- The design for the handle of a spoon or fork as set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
SIDNEY SMITH.
