DESIGN FOR A BOX.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 26,704, dated March 2, 1897.
A li ati fil d December 18, 1896. Serial No. 616,197. Term of ,jztent 14 years.
To all whom, it may concern/.-
Be it known that I, CHARLES A. MORNING- STAR, a citizen of the United States, residing at Columbus, in the county of Franklin and State of Ohio, have invented and produced a certain new and original Design for Boxes; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appcrtnins to make and use the same.
My invention relates to designs for boxes, more particularly to that class of small metal boxes used for powders, ointments, blacking, and similar substances, and has for its object to provide a box having the peculiar shape and configuration hereinafter described.
My invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a side view in elevation, and Fig. 2 a sectional view, of box.
Referring to the drawings, A designates the box, and Bits cover. The box is provided with a straight vertical flange a at its upper part, over which is adapted to fit a depending flange Z) of the cover. At the upper part of this flange 1) is an outwardly turned horizontal bead c, the upper edge of which is extended to form a bevel d, beyond which on the surface of the cover is a vertically-projecting bead e. Below the flange a the box is curved and rounded outward and then descends in a straight line to near the bottom of the box, where it is similarly rounded ofif to meet the flat bottom of the box. Abox is thus formed having a swelled or expanded body portion a, which is rounded off at both its upper and lower edges, forming at top and bottom a smooth curved interior surface free from crevices or seams. The leading features of my design consist in this expanded body portion of the box having a vertical Wall and rounded off in a similar manner at its top and bottom edges and the cover having the horizontal and the vertical beads with the bevel between them.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is The design for a box consisting of a straight vertical flange, a flat bottom, a swciled orexpanded body portion having a straight vertical wall and having its upper and lower edges similarly rounded off to meet said flange and bottom respectively, and a cover having a depending flange to fit over the box-flange, a beaded beveled portion above said flange, and a bead above said bevel, and a flat top surface, as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I ai fix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
CHARLES A. MORNINGSTAR.
