UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOSEPH PEARSON AND JOHN WILLIAM PEARSON, OF MANCHESTER, ENGLAND.
BOX.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed April 24, 1915. Serial No. 23,660.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that we, Josnrn PEARSON and J GEN W. PEARSON, subjects of the King of England, residing at Manchester, England, have invented new and useful Improvements in Boxes, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in boxes and has particular reference to boxes whose construction is similar to the ordinary and well known blackening box, where the cover is fixed tightly upon the box to prevent evaporation of its contents, and consequently very hard to remove.
The invention contemplates the provision of a box ofthis character, wherein the body is provided with spaced superimposed beads projecting exteriorly therefrom, wherein one of the beads is relatively narrow forming a flanges or beads 7 an seat for the cover whereby a fluid-tight joint is provided between these parts, the other of the beads being relatively wide and projecting beyond the lower edge of the cover to permit of a tool being positioned between these parts for the purpose of removing the cover, as well as to protect the hands of the user from being cut or otherwise injured by the adjacent edge of the cover.
The nature of the invention will be better understood from the following description thereof, the invention residing -in-the construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully set forth and claimed.
In the drawing forming part of this application like numerals of reference indicate similar parts in the several views and wherein:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the box with the cover partly removed- Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view with the cover in place.
In the preferred form of the invention 5 indicates the body portion of a box and 6 the cover therefor, which may be constructed from any suitable material. While the box shown in this particular instance is circular in outline it is desired to be understood that the same can be made in any form or cross sectional configuration.- The box is formed to provide spaced su erimposed annular 8 respectively, the
forced off the box by merely twisting the coin or tool in either an upward or downward direction. In addition to this purpose, the flange by projecting an appreciable dis tance outwardly beyond the adjacent end of the cover serves to protect the hands and fingers of the user of the box from being cut or otherwise injured by the said lower edge of the cover as will be readily understood.
The invention embodies simplicity of construction, and provides a device of the class in guestion, wherein the cover can be quicklyan easily removed in the manner hereinabove described.
It is believed that from the foregoing description the nature and advantages of the invention will be readily apparent without requiring a more extended explanation and therefore the same has been omitted.
What is claimed is A box having spaced superimposed beads projecting exteriorly therefrom, one of said beads being relatively narrow and the other of said'beads being relativelywide, a cover having a shoulder seated upon the said narrow bead and cooperating therewith to provide a fluid-tight joint, and an outstanding edge overhanging said relatively wide bead anddisposed in spaced relation above the said relatively wide bead inwardly of the outer edge thereof.
In testimony whereof we affix our tures in presence of two witnesses.
