Description

(LARENCE B. R.
PATENT OFFICE.
BITTER, OF TOLEDO, OIIIO.
DESIGN FOR A PUZZLE-BOX.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 26,162, datecl October 6, 1896.
Application filed August 7, 1898. Serial Ne. 602.089. Term of' patent 3l years.
Be it known that I, CLA RENCE B. R. BITTER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Toledo, in the county of Lucas and State of Ohio, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Puzzle Boxes or Cases, of which the following is a speeification, reference being had to the accompanying drawngs, which form a part thereof, in which- Figure l is a plan View of a puzzle box or case showing my design, and Fg. 2 a lougitudinal section thereof on the line 2 2, these two views being deemed necessary in order to fully illnstrate ny design.
The leading feature of my new and original design for puzzle boxes or cases consists of an oblong bottom plate or board 5, which is straight at one end and semicireular at the other, as shown at 7, and the sides thereof are parallel, and said bottom plate or board is provided with a vertical wall or fiange 8, which is formed thereon at a short distance froni the edge thereof, and which is of the same form as the botton plate or board, being straight at one end, as shown at 9, and semicircular at the other, as shown at 10, and I also provide a eircular vertical wall or fiange ll, which connects with the transversc end portion ll of the vertical wall or [lange 8, centrally thereof, and with the sides of said vertical wall er llange S, at 13, and by means of these vertical walls or flanges S and 19 an obleng clliptical space ll is fol-med, the side portious of which are parallel and the cnds scnicircular.
\\'ithi the walls or Ilages S and El is a similar wall or [lange 15, which forms the inncr boundary of the space 11, the ends lhereof being eircular and the sides parallel, and whereby a space 11), similar to the space 14, is l'ormed, the ends ol' which are circular and llusidcs parnllel, and cenncclcd with the wall 15, near the straight end of the box orcasing and at one side thereof, is a spiral vertical wall or flange 17, the end of which terminates at 18, and by which an oblong central space or chanber 19 is formed.
Although I have referred to the wall or flange 17 as spiral, the eoils thereof are oblong in form, and the space 90 between the same is similar to the spaces 11 and 16, though not quite so Wide. By means of the vertical wall or flange 12 corner eompart ments or spaces 21 are formed, which are triangular in form, and which communicate with the space 14 by means of passages or openings 22,formed in said wall or flange, and the wall or fiange 15 is also provided with similar openings or passages 2:2 at each end thereof and in one side, and the wall or flange 17 is provided with an opening or passage 22 at one end thereof and also in one of the coils thereof in line with the longitudiual center of the box or case.
The entire design is synmetrical in form, and the chambers formed by the various vertical walls or flanges are all similar in form, with the exception of the corner chambers 21, which are triangular in form, and the device is th us made to appear regular and symmetrical te the eye.
Ilaving fully described my new and original design, I claim as new and desirc to secure by Letters Patent- The design for a puzzle box or caso herei shown and described.
In testimouy that I claim the forcgoing as my invention I have signed mynamc, in prescce of the subscribig witnesses, thi` 3d day of August, 1896.
