DESIGN FOR A PUZZLE-BOX.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 26,163, dated October 6, 1896.

Application filed July 30,1896. Serial N0. 601,097. Term of patent 3 years.

lle it known that l,J()HN PETERKiNJlClllZOII of the United States, residingat Brooklyn, in the eountyof Kings and State of New York, have inventedand produced a new and original Design [or Puzzle Boxes or Cases,of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part thereof.

In the drawings forming part of this specification, Figure 1 is a plan view of my puzzle box or case; and Fig. 2, a transverse section thereof on the line '3 9 of Fig. 1, these two views being necessary to fully illustrate my design.

The leading feature of my design consists of a rectangular box or casing provided with a bottom 5, sides (3, and ends 7, and said box or casing is square in form, and said box or casing is provided with a false bottom b, which is bent longitudinally, so as to form a central longitudinal groove 0 and two cor responding side grooves 10, which extend from one end of the box or casing to the other, and by means of this formation of the false bottom corresponding longitudinal elevations 11 are formed between the side grooves 10 and the central groove 9, which also extends from one end of the box or casing to the other, and arranged in the center of the bottom 8 is a picture or the re 'n'esentation ol. a house, as shown at l l, aml said house is inclosed at cat-h corner by short vertical flanges or walls 1-1, the central portions of which are curved outwardly and the outer ends inwardly, as clearly shown in Fig. 1.

The picture or representation of the house may be printed, painted, stamped, engraved, or otherwise formed on the bottom 8, and that portion of the said bottom within the walls or flanges It is colored dilfereutly from the other portions thereof, and one halt'of the bottom is also differently colored from the other half and from that portion within the walls or flanges It.

The space within the vertical walls or flanges It is oblong in form and arranged transversely of the central longitudinal groove 9, and the entire design is symmetrical and regular in form.

Having fully described my new and original design, what claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

lhe design for puzzle boxes or cases, herein shown and described.
