' Speeification of Letters l atent.
Patented am. 2, 1909.
I 7 Application filed April 8, 1909. Serial No. 488,556. 1
5 andState of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements 111..
Boxes, of which the following is a specification. I
My invention relates" to an improved box,
and more particularly 'toa box designed for use as a terminal fuse or switch box, such as. ordinarily femployed in electric wiring, the Qb ect of the. invention being to provide an nnproved corner bracket, which will effect-uallyrduple the side and bottom plates,
and serve as a means for attaching the boxing in a pocket or to a wall. Heretofore boxes of this character have been made from a single blank of sheetmetalbent forming 20, the bottom 'andfour sides.
I A structure of this kind necessitates thin metal whichis wveak'in construction to start with, and
which soon becomes defective in-a. wall.
W'ith my improvements .the box may be,
.made from'n'ietallof any desired thickness.
and can be made as rigid andstrong as desired, and will last for an indefinite period in use. y
, The invention consists in certain novel features of construction, and combinations;
and arrangements of parts as will'be more fully hereinafter described and pointed out. in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings,
Figure 1,
is a perspective view illustrating my im- 'provements. Fig. 2, is a detail view of one of the corner brackets, and Fig. 3, is a detail of one of the inside brackets.
1 represents my improved corner bracket,
40 which comprises a single casting forming a base 2, having 'webs 3 projecting at right angles to the base and at rightanglesto each other, and strengthened by a tapering webel at the back of the meeting edges of the webs 3. I l I, 5 represents the bottom of the box, and 6 the four sidejpieces. In assembling a box. I employ four brackets l, and position the bottom 5 with its corners on the bases 2 of the brackets, snugly fitting between the webs 3, and secure the bottom 5 to the bases of the brackets by "means of rivets I, passed through alined openings .1n the bottom and the bases. The sidesfi are then secured to 'the inner faces of the'webs 3 of the severa brackets, by means of. rivets 8, 'as clearly shown, and inner corner brackets 9 are secured within the corners of the box formed by the sides '6'. These brackets 9 are also castings having sides 10 at right anglesto each other, and connected by a top ll, and the upper rivets 8 are passed through alined openings in the webs 3, sides 6' and sides 10 of brackets 9, and when upset will rigidly secure the brackets 9 in thecorners. and a. perfectly rigid durable box will be formed. The base 2 of eachbracket 1,,constituttw an anchor which maybe anchored in the 'wall in various ways,-and each base is preferably provided with an 'opening 12, to receive a screw or other securing-device not shown, whereby the box may be attached to the outer face of a wall, or within a pocket in the wall. I I Itwill be understoodthat the box will be provided with openings to receive electric wires, pipes and insulating tubes as may be desired for the wiring of a hons'e'. and'may be altered in various-ways to suit the conditions of its use, and therefore a great many changes might be resorted to with-out departing fronimy invention, and hence I consider myself at liberty to make such changes and alterations as fairly fall. within the spirit.- aud scope of. tll-CltllllL Havingthns described-my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Let-Q .tersPatent is I In a. device of the character described,., the combination withfthe bottom and; sides, of a corner bracket comprising anintegral cast- R.
