The leading feature of our design consists in giving such a configuration to a packingjar that the lower and major pari: of tbe jar shall present the ordinary and plain cylindrical outline of a jar, While the upper and smaller part appears in a series of concaved and tapering rings crowned byaat top and united to a jarhandle, which exhibits itself as an integral and ornamental part; of the whole design, which we now proceed to describe in detail.
A is the cylindrical body of the jar; B, a circular, eoneaved, and upwardly-taperin g recess therein; C, a second circular and ooncaved recess risingimmediately from the first and linshed by a vertical shallow circular rim d, Within which appears the lid. In the recess B are seen two oppositelyplaced thin and pierced lugs K, ilush with the vertical contour of the jar-body, and these appear as engaged with a bail L, having its handle m seated within the recess B, and by the described formation a jar is presented exhibiting as a single design the leading feature already indicated.
