UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CELIA M. SMITH, OF I'IHAGA, NEW YORK.
DESIGN A FOR STATUETTE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 22,867, dated November 7, 1893.
Application filed September 7, 1893. Serial No. 485,018. Term of patent 14 years.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CELIA M. SMITH,a citizen of the United States, residing at Ithaca, in the county of Tompkins and State of New York, have invented and produced a new and original Design fora Statuette; and I do here by declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part thereof.
Figures 1 and 2 are respectively front and rear elevations. Fig. 3 is a side elevation and Fig. 4 is a plan.
The statuette has an oval base 1 and is oval or approximately oval in cross section on whatever plane the section be taken and both the long and short diameters of these sections decrease in extent regularly from the base to the summit except at the regions 2 and 3 corresponding to shoulders or arms and a neck. The so-called shoulders or arms 2 are partially rounded protuberances which connect with the main portion of the figure by gradual curves and in such manner as not to interfere with the general ovoid-wedge shape of the same except that the length of the longest diameters are increased and the same is true of the neck portion except that its longest diameters are relatively shortened. The transverse or short diameters of the figure decrease from base to top with a close approach to uniformity.
A statuette made as described and shown has an appearance of stability combined with a general appearance of symmetry which is pleasing to the eye and is also favorable to the use of lines and colors which may, if desired, be employed to enhance the life like effect. Thus the shoulders or arms 2 consisting of simple gracefully rounded protuberanccs are adapted to receive or be connected with representations or copies of arms and hands.
Having thus described my new design, what I claim is The design for a statuette as shown and described.
In testimony whereof Iaflix mysignature in presence of two witnesses.
CELIA M. SMITH.
Witnesses:
CHARLES H. BLOOD, FRED H. SMITH.
