Description

DESIGN.
0. M. SMITH.
STATUETTE.
No. 21,680. Patented July 5, 1892.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CELIA M. SMITH, OF ITHACA, NEW YORK.
DESIGN FOR A STATUETTE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 21,680, dated July 5, 1892,
Application filed June 2,1892. Serial No. 435,316- Term of patent 14 years.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CELIA M. SMITH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Ithaca, in the county of Tompkins and State of New York, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Statues; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part thereof.
Figure 1 is a side elevation. Fig. 2 is a front elevation. Fig.3 is an elevation of the side opposite that shown in Fig. 1, and Fig. 4 a bottom plan of my design.
The leading feature of my design consists in a statuette comprising the oval base joined at substantially right angles to the approximately vertical lines and surfaces, which surround the main part of the body of the statue and are curved above to represent the upper part of the body and the neck, head, and ears.
Numeral 1 indicates the base, and 2 the main part of the body. Upon one side of the said main part of the body at its upper end the lines are curved inwardly and then upwardly, as at 3, 4, and 5, to represent, respectively, the back, neck, and the ear on one side. The top of the head is represented by the curved and approximately horizontal part 6,
which on each side connects with the inclined lines and surface 7, which, together with the outlines at 5 and 5, represent the ears. A slight inward curve at 4' indicates the front of the neck, and the outward curved surface at 8 and the inward curved surface at 9 to= gether represent the region of the breast.
In front elevation the statue has a wedgeshaped appearance with slightly receding surfaces at 8 and 9, as indicated. The opposite side is similar in form, except that it, recedes in a more pronounced manner at 3 and 4. The base, having a large area and being fiat and arranged at right angles to the vertical lines of the statue, imparts to it an appearance of stability, and the other parts are made to harmonize in manner to form the design set forth.
Having thus desoribed my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The design for the statuette of an animal, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
CELIA M. SMITH.
