Description

OR B
WITH-E5535:
DESIGN.
F. A. RICHARDS. FOOT STOOL.
Patented June 20, 1893.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
DESIGN FOR A FOOT-STOOL.
SPEG'IFIdATION forming part of Design No. 22,549, dated J unc 20, 1893.
Application filed April 21, 1893. Serial No. 471,346, Term of patent 7 years.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK A. RICHARDS, of Valley Falls, in the county of Providence and State of Rhode Island, haveinvented and produced a new and original Design for Foot- Stools and Similar Articles, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part thereof.
Figure 1 of the drawings is a view of a footstool representing my new design. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view of the same to more clearly indicate the features of the design.
The leading features of my new design for foot-stools and similar articles consist of the circular outline, broken by an inwardly-extending opening between two arms, curving depressions in the surface, small square projections symmetrically arranged in the depressions, raised ornaments on the ends of the arms, and a similar but somewhat lengthened ornament intersecting the curved outline together with the central cushioned effect.
Number 3 in the drawings represents the top of a foot-stool, and 4 is one of the standards on which the top is supported. Beginning at the base portions 5-5 of the top the outline of the same extends in slightly elliptical curves to the upper portion 6, from 5-5 the outline slants inwardly in straight lines to 77, thence curves outward to 8S, and finally curves abruptly inward to the nearlystraightline 9.
Near the upper portion 6 is located the straight beveled ornament 10, and from 5 to 7 extend the beveled ornaments 1l-11,while located between the points 55 and-the upper portion 6, in the surface of the top 3, are the curving depressions 12-12 in each of which are located the square ornaments 1313 graduated in size.
The central portion of the top 3 is ornamented by a cushion 14 having a broad base, the line of which curves slightly inward; from the ends of the base line the outline of the cushion curves upward following the general outline of the top 3, and around the cushion is a border 15, the whole presenting the effect of a cushion surrounded by a frame.
That I claim is The design for a foot-stool or similar article as herein shown and described.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand.
FRANK A. RICHARDS.
