No. 21,220. Patented Dec. 8, 1891.
Witmmy anmwto o UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
BIRGER BARK, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR TO SHERMAN S. JEWETT & (10., OF BUFFALO, NEW YORK.
DESIGN FOR A COOKING STOVE OR RANGE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 21,220, dated December 8, 1891.
Application filed November 6 1891. Serial No. 411,102. Term of patent 7 years,
To all whom it may concern: I
Be it known that I, BIRGER BARK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois,
have invented and produced a new and origi nal Design for Cooking Stoves and Ranges, of which the following is a specification.
My design is for the ornamentation of cooking stoves or ranges, and it is illustrated in 10 the accompanying drawing, which is a perspective view of a stove containing my design.
The characteristic features of this design are the novel ornan'lentations of the segregable parts of the stove or range and of the stove as a whole, as will be hereinafter pointed out.
The skirting A and legs B form a base or stand for the stove-body and are ornamented with a conventionalizedfoliage design. Thus the skirting at the side of the stove hasacentrally-arranged leaf ornament 1, from which spring leafy branches 2 2, which extend toward the legs. The same effect is produced in the ornamentation of the ends of the skirt,
although the design is varied somewhat in elaboration, owing to the difference in shape between the sides and the ends of the skirting. The rounded front faces of the legs, which constitute in elfect a continuation of 0 the skirting, have centrally-arranged leaf ornaments 3 and volute ornaments 4 on either side thereof. The upper surface of the lower end of the foot is also ornamented with aleaf and volute design 5.
The oven-door C is shown as provided with a medallion o and a circular-shaped ornamental medallion -holder 0'. The surface ornamentations of these two parts 0 and e do not constitute essential features of this de- 0 sign and need not be described.
Above the holder 0' the door is ornamented with trefoil-leaf ornaments (l and below the holder with another trefoil and a foliated spray 7.
The end door I) to the lire-box has an arabesque ornamentation 8, in which the trefoil appears as a characteristic feature.
The outside face of the end plate of the water-heating chamber E is ornamented with an arabesque design 9, similar in general effeet to the ornamentation on the door D, but somewhat differently elaborated to suit the shape of the surface which it adorns.
The front door I to the firebox, containing the slide-damper, is ornamented as follows: Around and between the oval-shaped damperopenings is placed ornamental work 10, while above these openings is scroll-work 12 and at the ends scroll-work ornaments 13. Above the scroll-work 12 is placed the stove-name,
while above and at the side of this is arranged other scrolI-work 14.
What I claim is 1. In a design fora stove, the base orstand, substantially as shown and described.
2. In a design for a stove, the oven-door,
substantially as shown and described.
In a design for a stove, the end plate of the water-heating chamber, substantially as shown and described. 0
4. In a design for a stove, the end door to the fire-box,substantlally as shown and described.
5. In a design for a stove, the front door to the fire-box, substantially as shown and described.
6. The design for a cooking stove or range, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
BIRGER BARK.
