UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
BARNEY Il. SANDERS, OF S'l. LOUIS, MISSOURI, ASSIGNOR TO 'llllll ETTE d;
HENGER MAN UFAOTURlNG COMPANY, OF SAME PLACE.
DESIGN FOR A BRACKET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 21,199, dated December 1, 1891.
Application filed October 291 1891. Serial No. 410,281- Terin of' patent 14 years.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, BARNEY Il. SANDERS, a citizen of the United States, residing at St. Louis, in the State of Missouri, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Brackets; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and ro use the same.
My design relates to a bracket, the object of the invention being to ornament and embellish the appearance of such an article by making it in a novel and peculiar shape; and
it consists in the new design for a bracket, substantially as herein shown, described, and claimed.
The illustration presented in the accompanying drawing is a side elevation of a 2o bracket, showing my design.
rlhe leading features of my design are comprised in a figure having right-angled edges, the quadrant at the vertex of said edges having an ornamental and dentated are line, or-
15 namental panels parallel to the edges, and a conventional curved figure in skeleton ferm between the panels.
A A represent the horizontal and the vertical outer edges of my new bracket design,
3o said ed ges being at right angles to each other. The space between them is partially filled with a skeleton or open work arrangement of the various parts of the design, as I shall now describe. Y
XVithin the angle between the two edges A A there is avacant quadrant bounded by the curved connecting part B, in addition to the two parts of the lines A, which form its straight sides, said curved line B being a suitable distance from the vertex 0f the angle. Part B has thereon an ornamental curved panel b marked with points ordotsor othersnit able ornamental devices, and the part Bis furthermore shaped with a series of outwardlyextending radially-directed V-shaped cusps or points D, in the center of each of which is a circular ornamenting point or dot d. The curved part B connects at each end with the adjacent side A by a dat block-like part a',
5o whose face is depressed below the level of the series of points D, and also it will be observed that the short space occupied by parts a interveues between the ends of said series of points D and the sides A.
Along the inner side of each of the edges A A is a panel parallel to side A. C designates the horizontal panel, and C' the vertical one. The inner ends of these panels meet the curved part B, and their outer ends are contiguous to the ends of edges A. Said pan- 6o els have a convenient width, so that their faces may be embellished with devices consisting of an indented or dotted background traversed from end to end by the conventional ligure of a sinuous vine-like rib c, with oishoots c' alternately on opposite sides ot' rib c, which shoots carry fruit-like forms c2 and pointed ends. The panels C C are connected with the adjacent edges A by intervening rectangular block-shaped pieces a, 7o similar to pieces a',which are separated from each other by vacant spaces, as shown. It will thus be seen that the panels C C' lie in positions at right angles to each other. lithin the space between them is a curved conventional ligure comprising an outer curved.- arm E, which is situated in a substantially inclined position and extends substantially in the direction of aline connecting the outer ends of panels C C or ot edges A, said pan- 8o els being touched by the ends of arm E. Springing from arm E into the space between it and panels O C is a compoundly-cnrved figure G, the upper curve of which touches the inner edge of horizontal panel C, while the lower curve touches the inner edge ot' the vertical panel C. This lower curve terminates in an independent cornute or hornshaped form G', having an ornate, dentated, or foliated edge set vertically, and within the 9o winding of the upper curvature of figure Gis another similar cornute form G2, set horizontally and with its oppositely-projecting ears touching, respectively, the opposite edges of the inclosing ligure.
At the middle point, or thereabout, of the length of arm E is a circular ring F, which touches ligure G. XVithin the ring Fis a polyfoilf, inclosing acentral star f, and itself encircled by a series of dots or points, which too ornament the surface between the polyfoil and the concentric ring F. At the outer end of the panel C is a denmted ornamental ter- In testimony whereof Iafx my signature in minal e, and at the betteln end of panel C is presence of two witnesses. a similar though differently-shaped terminal q BARNEY ll. SANDERS. 5 W/hat I claim isvWitnesses:
The design for a bracket, substantial] y as GEORGE JONES, herein described and shown. HERMAN BIERMANN.
