UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE J. WELLS, OF ALBANY, NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR TO THE CHICAGO HARDWARE MANUFACTURING COMPANY, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
DESIGN FOR A DOOR-TRIMMING.
SPECIFICATION forming. part of Design 80.18.351, dated May 22, 1388.
Appllcatlon Zlled October 25, 1881. Serial Not253,410. Term of patent 1 years To all whom it may concern;
Be it known that I, GEORGE J. WELLS, a citizen of the United States, residing in Albany, county of Albany, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Designs for a Door-Trimming, of which the following-inaspccifieatiomreferenee being bad to the accompanying photograph, forming apart thereof and illustrating a perspective view of my design.
lhe leading feature of my design is a doortrimming provided with a panel angular or curved, having asurrounding border of parallel beads, and at intervals thereon crossed strips or hands.
Referring by letter to the accompanying photograph, A indicates the escutcheon forming a part ofa door-trimming, and B the knob forming the remaining portion of said trimming, both of which are provided with a panel, 0, surrounded with parallel beads D, having at intervals thereon crossed bands E,which have the appearance ofsurrounding and binding the beads together. Both of these central panels may be plain and either raised above or sunk below the plane of the beaded border; but, as shown, and by preference,they areornamented by serrated-edged leaves a, raised above the plane of the panel and arranged in'any manner desired upon said panel; but in the escutcheo n panel, and at the bottom thereof there may, as shown, he an urn, b, holding the eaves in said panel. Between the central panel and the beaded border there is an inner surrounding plain border, F, which is shown as raised above, but may be depressed below,the plane of the central panel.
While the ornamentation of the central panel and the use of a surrounding plain border bev 2 eeatrelpanelandth-e'beeded border with its crossed bands are pleasing and sometimes desirable, it would be no departure from the lead i ng feature of my design toornament the panel F, or to entirely omitsaid plain border, or to have the central panel plain or provided with an ornamentation substantially diifering from the leaves and urn shown and described.
Having described my inventiomwhatl claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In a design for a door-trimming, the es cutcheon herein shown and described,the same consisting of beads surrounding a central panel and having at intervals crossbands.
2. In a design for a doortrimming, the knob herein shown and described,oonsisting of beads surrounding a central panel and having at intervals crossbauds.
3. The design for a door-trimming, consisting of the escutcheon and knob having beads surrounding a central panel provided at intervals with cross-bands, as shown.
GEORGE J. WELLS.
