UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JACOB S. THORN, OF PHILADELPHIA', PENNSYLVANIA.
DESIGN FOR A SHINGLE OR ROOFING-PLATE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 18,212, dated March 27. 1888. Application iled February 27, 188B. Serial No. 265,520. Term of patent 14 years.
To @ZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that l, JACOB S. THORN, of the city and county of Philadelphia, State of Pennsylvania, have invented aud produced a new and original Design for Metallic RoofingPlates or Shingles, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part thereof, and iu which- Figure l is a perspective view of my newlydesigned rooiingplate, and Fig. 2 a side view of the same, these two views being deemed necessary to fully illustrate my design.
My new design consists of a rooting-plate having a thickened lower edge of the peculiar outline shown in the drawings-that is, said lower edge is bounded by two converging and inwardlyfcurved lines, and a third line running across the center line of the shingle, so as to intersect the curved lines aforesaid-said shingle also having an elongated projection extending along the median line on its upper surface.
A is t he-face or upper visible part of the shingle, having preferably side edges, a a, parallel to its median line.
B is the raised or struekup lower edge of the shingle, bounded by the inwardly-curved lines b b and the intersecting line b', lying across the centerline of the shingle.
C is the elongated elevated boss, formed, as shown, along the median line of the shingle.
D indicates the upper-portion of the visible face of the shingle, which is generally only outlined clearly when coupled with similar shingles, and therefore forms no part of my design. The dotted lines indicate flanges, edges, 8m., of the shingle, which are situated outside of its visible face, and may be of any construction without in any Way affecting my design.
I claim- The design for a metallic shingleor rootingplate herein shown and described, the same consisting of a shingle having a thickened lower edge bounded by two inwardly-curved converging lines, and anintersecting line lying across the center line of the shingle, and having also the elevated elongated projection C extending along the median line of its upper surface.
