PATTERN FOR SPURS.
No. 16,767. Patented July 6, 1886.
INVENTDR wwfiflueynmnn,
BY W *@a. ATTYS UNITED STATES AUGUST BUERMANN, OF NINVAIIK, NICW JERSEY.
DESIGN FOR A PATTERN FOR SPURS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No 16,767, dated July 6, 1886.
Application filed January .15. 1956. Serial No. 180,700.
To 11M whom it may concern:
lie it known that l, AUoUs'r BUERMANN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Newark, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Patterns for Spurs; and I dohereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
In the drawings, Figure l, is a plan of a pattern. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same. Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken through line y. Fig. 4 is a sectional view taken through line J7}. Fig. 5 is a section through line 3 and Fig. 6 a section through line y",- these several views being deemed sufficient to illusirate the invention.
The leading feature of the design consists in the spur-pattern, in which the heel-baud portion is transversely ribbed at a point beneath the rowelarm, the rib being angular in crosssection and rounded off at the lower edge of the said heel-band.
It consists, further, in the general configuration of the pattern, substantially as will be hereinafter set forth.
In said drawings, a is the heel-baud portion of the spur-pattern, the outer face of which is rounded, as shown in Figs. 2 and 3, and from the point of union with the [rowel-arm Term of atent 14 years.
the ends or extensions b b of the band taperor are contracted toward the extremities c c, at which they are rounded when viewed in side elevation, as in Fig. 2. At the center of the baud,'immediately beneath the rowel-arm, the band is ribbed transversely, the rib appearing to be an extension of the rowel-arm. Said rib is angular, as indicated in Fig. 6, and at its lowest end is rounded, as at l'. The rowelarm (I is angular, being nearly square in section through line y, as indicated in Fig. 5. Above the upper lineoftheheel-band the said rowclarm curves upwardly and outwardly from said band, and at the extremity is enlarged or head-shaped in side elevation and rounded, as at r In plan the said extremity is bifurcated, as in Fig. 1.
\Vhat I claim as new is The design for a spur-pattern,the same con sisting of a spur pattern in which the heelbaud is rounded on the outer face and at the extremities and ribbed beneath the rowel arm, said rib being angular and at the lower end rounded, and the rowel-arm being square in section and head-shaped at its outer end, and curved when viewed in side elevation. substantially as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 20th day of January, 1886.
AUGUS' BUERMANN.
