Description

DESIGN Patented Apr. 28, 1885 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
NI), OF LUIOGES, FRANCE.
DESIGN FOR A HANDLE FOR DISHES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 16,060, dated April 28, 1885 Applhxiti n tilt-ll lrlvrnury fl i 85 To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, Cir-turns Norman 5 llAvn..-\. in, a citizen otthc United States, rcsiding at Limoges, Republic of France, have invented and produced a certain new and original Design for Handles for Dishes, fully described and represented in the following specification and the accompanying drawings, forming a part of the same.
This design is illust rated by two perspective views, one, Figure 1, representing a covered dish as viewed from the side, and Fig. 3 the same dish as viewed from the end.
This design consists in the shape of the handles applied to dishes.
The handle, as shown, is composed of two scrolls, one represented as laid upon the other, the whole being bent so as to form an archlike figure. The ends 1 of the major or exterior scroll, 5, are curved or rolled outwardly and projected laterally, and the ends .5 of the interior or minor scroll, 6, are curved or rolled inwardly and projected laterally. The two scrolls are also shown as bound together by a central hand, 7, and the exterior one is beantitied by a scale-like ornamentation, b.
The essential characteristic feature of the design is the scroll-like configuration of the handle.
This design, though shown as embodied in a covered dish, is applicable to the covers or i bodies of the various dishes of a tableserviee l where handles are required, no matter what; the shapes may be.
It is to he understood that although a cov' ered vegetable-dish is illustrated, the dishes of a. table-course having handles vary in size and depth, some of which are provided with covers, while some are open vessels. Thus a. soup'turcen is acovered dish of greater depth than a vegetable-dish, while a bnttendish may be covered or not, and will be of small dimen sions and shallow. A tea-cup will be a deep dish of small size, and have a handle arranged vertically with respect to its mouth rather than horizontally. These various arrangements of the handle will be readily understood and come within the scope of this design.
What is claimed is- 1. The design for the handles of dishes, the same consisting ofthe scroll-like configuration. substantially as shown and described.
2. The design for a covered dish, consisting of a cover and body having handles of scrolllike formation, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
