Description

DESIGN FOR AN ARM-CHAIR.
Design No. 13,713, dated March 6, 1883.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
NATHANIEL WHEELER, OF BRIDGEPORT, OONN., ASSIGNOR TO POTTIER & STYMUS MANUFACTURING COMPANY, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
DESIGN FOR AN ARM-CHAIR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 13,713, dated March 6, 1888.
Application filed December 18, 1882. Term of patent 14 years.
To all'whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, NATHANIEL WHEELER, of Bridgeport, in the county of Fairh'eld and State of Uonnecticut, have invented and produced a, new and original Design for Railroad Arm-Chairs; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear. and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying photographs, which form a part of this specification.
Figure 1 is a side elevation of my newly-(1e signed arm-chair for railway-cars. Fig. 2 is a. front view of the same, and Fig.3 is a perspective view.
Like letters of reference indicate correspond ing parts in the several figures.
The leading feature of my design consists in the shape of the chair-back A, which extends from the roll B in the top of the chair-frame to within a short distance of the back of the upholstered seat 0. By reference to the side elevation, Fig. 1, it will be seen that the outline of the upholstered back increases in depth or thickness toward its lower end, where it forms an inwardly-projecting bulge, D, overlapping the back part of the seat. The upper part, on
the contrary, is depressed to form a recess, E,
which is clearly marked between the top F of 30 the back, just below the roll, and its lower part or bulge, D.
In this class of chairs as heretofore constructed the shape of the back follows the general outline and shape of the chair-frantic, while it; will be seen that my upholstered back A, composed of the three distinctly -msrked sections F, E, and D, forms a design or shape the outline of which is diiferent from that of the chair-frame.
I claim- The design for an arm-chair for railway-cars herein shown and described, the same consisting of the back A, upholstered so as to form the three distinctly-marked sections F, E,-and D,ot' the contour herein shown, said lowermost section, D, being disconnected from and overlapping with its swell or bulge the seat 0, as shown.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own 1 have hereunto affixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
NATHANIEL WHEELER.
Witnesses:
ISAAC HOLDEN, F. HUBD.
