. CHAIR-BACK.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, AUGUsT Srcnnnr, a citizen of the United States, residing at Fort Stanton, in the county of Lincoln and State of New Mexico, have invented new and useful Improvements in Chair-Backs, of which i the following isa specification.
ting postures, such back having its face shaped to conform to the hollow of the human back and to receive the shoulder blades, whereby the lungs may expand and the person sit erect with the shoulders thrown particularly well back.
The invention consists of the novel features, details of construction and combination of parts, which hereinafter will'be more set forth, illustrated and claimed. i In the drawings hereto attached :Figure 1 is a perspective view of a chair provided with a back embodying the invention. fFig. 2 is an edge view of the chair back. Fig. 3 is a top view.
Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description, and indicated in all the views of the drawings, by the same reference characters. i The numeral 1 designates a support or rest for the back of a person when sitting, and for the sake of simplicity andto avoid confusion, such support will be designated hereinafter' as a chair back, although in practice I it is not restricted in its application to chairs and may be applied to settees and other articles of furniture generally utilized for receiving a person when sitting.

signed to come in contact with the back of the person is formed witha forward bulge 2,
and recesses 8. The forward bulge 2 extends transversely of the chairback and is of such outline as to conform to the hollow of the human back. The recesses 3 are located at the upper corners of the chair back upon op pos te sides of a medial line so as to come opposite the shoulder blades of the person when sitting, thereby enabling the shoulders to be thrown backward to admitof the lungs and respiratory organs beingfully expanded Y I invention, together with the device which I now consider to be the best embodiment thereof, I desire to have it understood that the device shown is merely illustrative, and that such changes may be made when desired as are within the scope of the invention as claimed.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is A chair back comprising a substantially perpendicularly disposed single piece of material bent transversely ad acent its base to provide a bulged portion on the front side thereof, the upperend of theback being relatively wider than the remainder of the material and recessed upon the opposite sides of the longitudinal medial portion of the back, the confronting edges of the recesses being reversely curved in the form of an arc.
Intestimony whereof I affix my signature,
in presence of two witnesses.
