- a rocking-chair and a cradle ii such a manner that the said rocking-chair may be transformed into a cradle, and also into an armchair or a .lounge, as may be required, the object of this my invention being to produce one piece of furniture that may serve several purposes, and saving the storing of a cradle after being used and for the time not needed.

Figure 1 is a perspective view of a rockingchair embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of a cradle, also embodying my invention. manner in which a lounge may be produced. Figs. 4 and 5 represent detail parts of my invention.

Ais the frame of the combined rockingchair and cradle, which frame should be substantially constructed to resist the pressure impressed upon it by the seat when in use. The frame A is provided at the front and at the back with extension-slides s 00, similar to the slides of an extension-table, to allow the sides of the frame to be extended when it is to be used as a cradle, or to be brought near when used as a chair. They are also to serve as sides of the cradle, or as the bottom of the lounge. When used as a rocking-chair, the extension-slides s a: are to be closed to bring the sides of the frame A as near together as the seat S will permit. The back, formed by the parts a b joining at the center of the back, are held together at the upper part by the bar m, and at the lower part by the barn. The runners r r are to be fastened to the legs I l by placing the pins t t of the legs into the recesses'e c, with which the runners are provided, tasteningthem by means of the screws 0 0.

WVhen an arm-chair is to be formed, the screws 0 0 are to be withdrawn from the run ners r 4", allowing the latter to be removed from the legs 1 l. Casters may then be attached to the pins t 1.

When a cradle is to be made, the runners r 1' have to be attached again to the legs by placing the pins t t into the recesses t i, and

fastening them by means of the screws 0 0.

The back a b has to'be removed, and is to be separated to become the sides of the cradle. The sides of the frame are to be extended by drawing out the extension-slides s w, fastened to the front and to the back of the frame A, and thus changing the sides of the frame into the head and foot parts of the cradle. The parts a I), being separated, are to be inserted as sides of the cradle, and fastened to the front and to the back bearings 11 o by means of the screws 0 c and d (I. The bars m and a may then serve as laths at the interstices between the seat S and the head and foot parts of the cradle, as may be seen in Fig. 2.
