Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN L. POFE, OF CLEVELAND, OHIO.
DESIGN FOR A CARRlAGE-STEP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 13,417, dated November 14, 1882.
Application filed August 2, 1882. 'l'orm of patent 1-1 years.
To all whom it may concerfn:
Be it known that I, JOHN L. POPE,ofCleveland, in the county of Cuyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented and produced a new and 5 original Design for Garriage-Steps, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying photographic illustration. forming part thereof.
My invention relates to a new design for ro carriage-steps; andit consists mainly in omamenting the upper surface thereof with tour,
elliptical shaped fignres, formed of ribhed work, each orossing the other; an l it further consists in adorning the outer edges of the step with a. cnrved-shaped border of ribbed or raised work terminating in rounded aroh-lke figures at each corner of the plate, all as will he hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying photograph, a a a a represent fourelliptical-sh apedtign res made up of ribbed work, which, as will be plainly seen, cross each other near the middle of the plate and form in the center of the plate a sort of diamond-shaped figure with curved sides and four contiguous triaugular-shaped figures. Within the diamond-shaped and triangular ligures I have shown the metal as cut out, and within the former I have shown a foliated opening, while in the latter I have illustrated triangnlar openings. Near the four upper edges of the step I have designed a curved border of raised work, b b' b b', &c., that terminates in rounded arch-like figures c c c c at each corner, and within thelatter figurcs l have shown round openings; but these, as well as the other openings referred to, are not essential to the novelty of my new pattern, nor is the trefoliated adornment seen at d d d d.
What l claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A design for a carriage-step, consisting of four elliptical-shaped ribbed figures crossing each other. snbstantially as shown.
2. A design for a oarriage-step border` consisting of enrved ribs terminating ao each corner of the step in rounded arch -like figures, substautially as shown.
In testimony whereof [have hereunto set my hand this lst day of May, 1882.
JOHN L. POPE. ln presence of-- A. A. PoPE, G. M. CoPP.
