DESIGN FOR A FORK AND SPOON.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 12,553, dated November 1, 1881. Application filed September 19, 1881. Term of patent 14 years.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HIRAM W. HAYDEN, of \Vaterbury,oountyof New Haven, in the State of Connecticut, have invented or produced a new and ornamental Design for Spoons and Forks, and the following is a description of the same.
This design relates to the ornaments upon the front and back of the handle of a fork or spoon; and it consists of raised bands, figures,
and ornaments upon a smooth or polished background, and said design is known as the India pattern.
The accompanying drawing shows both the [5 front and back of a spoon of my new design.
The front of the spoon or fork handle is crossed diagonally by the bands 0. a b b c c, and the spaces between these bands are occupied by palm or shawl'pattern figures orna- 2o mented with leaflet centers and diamond lines on the border. There are stems and leaves between thesefigures. The corner d is plain. The space or panel 0 is ornamented with stems and fruit. The panelsf and g are ornamented 2 5 with stems and spreading leaves. The bands h h] cross the back diagonally, and the band 'i is segmental at the end of the handle, and these bands haveornamental curved figures, as shown,with dots and leaves between. The 0 panel k is ornamented with stems, leaves, and flowers, as shown, and the panel l with stems,
-leaves, and heads'of grain. The ornamental bands, arched panels, and figures at m encircle l the handle of the spoon or fork and form a base to the design.
I claim as my invention- 1. The design ofthe shape and configuration of the bands a a b b c o, and the palmor shawlpattern figures, and stems and leaves between them, substantially as shown and described.
2. The design ot'the shape and configuration of the hands a a b b c c, and palm or shawlpattern figures, and the stem and leaflet designs in the panels 6 f g, substantially as shown and described. 3. The design of the shape and configuration of the ornamental bands h h and the ornamental segment at i, as shown and described. 4. The design of the shape and configuration of the ornamental hands h, h, and i, the stem, leaf, and flower design in the panel k, and the stem, leaf, and grain-head design in the panel Z, as shown and-described.
5. The design of the ornamental bands, arched panels, and figures m, substantially as described.
6. The design of the palm-leaf figures and diagonal bands upon the handle of a fork or spoon, substantially as specified.
