UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
MORRIS P. BRAY, OF HAVEN, CONNECTICUT.
DESIGN FOR A CORSET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 12,040, dated November 30, 1880.
Application filedOctober 11, 1880. Term of patent 7 years.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MORRIS P. BRAY, of New Haven, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented a new Design for Corsets; and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings and the letters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, which said drawings constitute part of this specification, and represent, in-
Figure 1, a side view of one-halt the corset; Figs. 2 and 3, sections detached.
This invention relates to adesign for the ornamentation of corsets and itconsists in the ornamental lines on the surface of the corset, as shown in the accompanying illustration and hereinafter described. Thelines of ornamentation follow the lines of bones and also the curved edge of the sections.
Fig. 2 shows the rear secti0n,'in which are two pockets, a a, for the bones. On the surface of these pockets is a printed line of ornamentation between the rows of stitcheswhich form the pockets. At the edge, which is curved to shape'the corset, a similar line of ornamentation, b,is run, following the curve of the edge, and in stitching the parts together a line of stitches is run each side this line of ornamentation.
Fig. 3 is the second section from the rear, in which are three pockets, 0 c c, with a like line of ornamentation following the line of the pockets, and also a corresponding ornamentation, d, following the curve of the edge, and so on throughout the corset. The edge of the section which overlaps the adjacent section is the edge which is ornamented. This ornamentation is made by printing upon the surface by a type corresponding to the lines of 40 ornamentation, each line of ornamentation having a parallel line of stitches at each side, as shown in the accompanying illustration. The lines of ornamentation on the surface of the pockets may be omitted and the line of ornamentation at the edge only retained.
I claim- 1. The design for corsets, consisting of the printed lines of ornamentation following the line of the bones, and corresponding lines of ornamentation at the edge of the sections, and following the curve of that edge, combined with a line of stitches at each side of and parallel with said lines of ornamentation, substantially as shown in the accompanying illustration.
2. The design for corsets, consisting of a printed line of ornamentation following the curve of the edge of the sections, with a row of stitches at each side, and parallel with said lines of ornamentation, substantially as shown in the accompanying illustration.
